Reheat Fried Plantains

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 It’s probably a crime in some countries to eat reheated fried plantains, but sometimes we can’t do any better right? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Well, for those of you who are looking to reheat these delicious morsels of yumminess, keep reading.

Below, is a short guide that will highlight the best available options to consider when it comes to reheating fried plantains.

You Have to Fry Them Over

If you want to have fried plantains with the somewhat same texture, you are going to have to refry them. It won’t be exactly how they were when they first came out of the frying pan, but it is the best option that you have.

Frying them is not a long process, as you really just want them warmed up and this method will have you done in a couple of minutes.

Steps:

  • Heat a frying pan and pour some oil in it.
  • Take the cold fried plantains and place in the frying pan.
  • Fry the pieces 20-30 seconds on each side.
  • Once finished, take out and place in a plate/container with some paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
  • Once cooled, take out and enjoy.

Using the Broiler

If you for whatever reason do not want to re-fry, you could always use the broiler to reheat fried plantains.

This will actually rejuvenate the plantains, as you get the crispy exterior, while inside remains moist and soft. The only issue is that it takes a bit longer than if you had them in the frying pan.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Place the plantains on a baking sheet (you can line it with foil if you want easy cleanup)
  • Place the baking sheet with the plantains on the broil rack of the oven.
  • Broil for 2-4 minutes. If you find they need a bit more time, you can keep them in longer.
  • Once finished, take out, allow to cool, then serve.

Microwave

Microwaves are a quick option, but when it comes to reheating fried plantains, it might/might not be a good option to consider.

Microwaves and fried foods don’t go together at all and it usually makes anything fried soggy and yucky. With the microwave and plaintains, this might not be the case, especially since you are just doing a quick reheat and the insides are already soft and moist. You definitely won’t be getting the crisp exterior, but at least they will be warmed up.

If you have no other option available, then the microwave it is.

Steps:

  • Take the fried plantains and place in a microwave safe container.
  • (Optional) You can place a damp paper towel or cloth over the bread to prevent it from drying out.
  • Zap it for maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute (depending on how many you have and how cold they are)
  • Once it is warmed up to the way you like it, take out, allow to cool and serve.
